The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free andAccepted Masons of North Carolina is the oldest and largest fraternal organizationin North Carolina. The Grand Lodge has been in continuous operation since it wasestablished by a convention of Masonic lodges in Tarboro, N.C., December 1787.Previous to that, Masonic lodges had met in North Carolina since 1755 under theauthority of several other grand lodges. The collection consists of minute books, ledgers, accountbooks, other similar financial record-keeping volumes, membership returns, bylaws,and other papers that document many extinct and some active individual lodges underthe Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina.
